Sorry for much delay (stuck in quicksand it feels).

Here is output of ./configure

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.16... yes
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.22.0... yes (version 2.44.1)
checking for LIBPROTOBUF_C... yes
checking presence of libprotobuf-c dependencies... yes
checking usability of libprotobuf-c library and headers... no
configure: error: A usable libprotobuf-c was not found.

apt-get install worked for 'libprotobuf-c-dev' and not for 'libprotobuf-c'
it couldn't find the later.

I m attaching config.log
